Thimons brings extensive background in steel LCA and recycling

The Athena Sustainable Materials Institute Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Mark Thimons to its Board of Directors.  Mr. Thimons replaces Brandie Sebastian, formerly with AISI.

Mr. Thimons is the Vice President for Sustainability at the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).  In this capacity Mr. Thimons has directed and managed numerous industry wide sustainability programs that demonstrate the life cycle advantages of steel in all markets. Important focus areas include life cycle assessment (LCA) studies, national recycling programs and initiatives, educational programs on steel recycling and sustainability topics, as well as credible documentation and effective communication of the overall environmental, social, and economic sustainability attributes of steel produced in North America.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and a LEED accredited professional in the specialty of building design and construction.
