The EcoCalculator was originally developed for the Green Building Initiative, as a tool for securing LCA-based points in Green Globes™. It was developed by the Athena Institute in association with the University of Minnesota and Morrison Hershfield Consulting Engineers. The EcoCalculator was later also adopted for use in a LEED® LCA-based pilot credit.
The commercial building version of the EcoCalculator was first released as a free product in 2007. The residential version was developed in 2010, for the APA Carbon Challenge.
