Version 3 Tutorial - New Project

General Project Description Dialogue

Here, you are asked to enter some general information about the project to be modeled (not all of which needs to be entered).

In the example dialogue box below, the user has entered the name of the project as "Test Building 1" . The user has also provided a more detailed descriptor of the intent of the simulation. The location of the project has been specified as "Atlanta" by selecting from the Project Location list menu.

The gross floor area is an optional input that the software uses to display results on a unit area basis.

Project Location Building Type Operating Energy Consumption
Enter the building /assembly life for your project. This invokes a typical envelope component maintenance and replacement schedule, which is keyed to the building location, type and occupancy (which you next select from the list provided).

Building life is also used to determine the total life cycle operating energy should you choose to enter the annual operating energy by fuel type.
  • Click Project Location above to see possible locations including USA average (USA)
  • Click Building Type above to see building types.
  • Click Operating Energy Consumption to see the process for entering your operating energy simulation results

You can either highlight and enter the building life or use the scrolling arrows to change the building life by increments of 20 years.

Next select the default units you want the software to use when opening dialogue boxes for data input. The SI (metric) unit designation is the default unit measure for entering assembly information and has been selected in the example. While inputs to the software can be specified as either Imperial or (SI) metric, the internal calculations and final results are computed in metric units.
