CPCI joins Athena – architectural and structural precast concrete coming soon to the Impact Estimator

The Athena Sustainable Materials Institute welcomes CPCI, the Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, as its newest member.

CPCI, whose members have 46 CPCI certified precast concrete plants located throughout Canada, joins the Athena community of sustainability leaders at the forefront of a movement that’s making sustainable development a standard operating practice.

Thanks to a study conducted for CPCI by Athena and building science consultant Morrison Hershfield, Canadian architectural precast wall panels and structural precast columns, beams, and hollowcore floors will soon be available as selectable options in the Athena Impact Estimator for Buildings LCA software. Precast concrete wall choices in the new release will include conventional architectural wall panels and integral insulated wall panels. These enhancements will be included in the latest release of the Impact Estimator to be available late summer 2012.

CPCI is pleased to see the Impact Estimator being enhanced with up to date precast concrete information. “Precast concrete manufacturers have a unique opportunity and are committed to sustainable design and construction,” says CPCI Managing Director Sustainability & Business Development, Brian Hall. “CPCI supports sustainable building practices and continual improvement of their designs, plant production practices, transportation and construction site activities through such programs as the CPCI Sustainable Plant Program which is also being initiated in 2012.”
