Athena Institute publishes first environmental building declaration in alignment with the national guidelines for whole-building LCA

We conducted LCA on the Idaho Central Credit Union Arena on the Moscow, ID campus of the University of Idaho, and we documented the LCA results in a comprehensive “environmental building declaration.” This LCA and the reporting were undertaken following the new national guidelines for whole-building LCA published in 2022 by the National Research Council Canada.

An environmental building declaration (EBD) is a detailed report declaring life cycle environmental impacts according to a standardized format. This is a statement of performance and is typically publicly disclosed, similarly to environmental product declarations (EPDs). The intent of environmental declarations is to present results as transparently and concisely as possible.

We did this work at the request of the US Endowment for Forestry and Communities and USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory and in collaboration with the University of Idaho.
