Athena offers free webinar on Whole-Building LCA
The Athena Sustainable Materials Institute is offering a free 1-hour webinar on how to do whole-building LCA. The webinar will be offered twice: on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 24, at 1pm EDT on both days.
Participants will learn how to measure embodied impacts, examine design alternatives and explore trade-offs for a holistic and life cycle approach to sustainable design.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an important addition to the sustainability toolkit for buildings. LCA looks at the upstream and downstream burdens throughout the entire building life cycle and reports environmental impacts such as global warming, acidification, eutrophication, creation of waste, and depletion of fossil fuels.
LCA provides a quantitative basis for environmentally improved designs, removing the guesswork, unintentional greenwashing and burden shifting – that is, when improvement in one life phase merely creates more burden in another phase.
In this 1-hour free webinar Athena presenters will cover:
- Introduction to LCA
- LCA in LEED®, Green Globes®, CalGreen and the IgCC
- Demonstration of the Impact Estimator for Buildings, a free LCA software package for construction professionals.
