Canadian Precast Prestressed Concrete Institute publishes third update of EPDs
The Canadian Precast Prestressed Concrete Institute (CPCI) commissioned the Athena Institute to conduct life cycle assessment (LCA) and develop environmental product declarations (EPDs) for four precast products: architectural, structural, insulated panel, and below grade. CPCI has been maintaining Canadian precast EPDs for years; this is their third update.
The EPDs, which provide industry average results by product and by region (eastern, western, and central Canada), were verified and registered with EPD program operator ASTM International.
This up-to-date regional LCA data will be incorporated into the next release of the Athena Impact Estimator for Buildings. The data will also be available for the upcoming Canadian national life cycle inventory database and will be incorporated in the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) concrete EPD tool, to assist individual manufacturers in developing custom EPDs.
