BCIT issues second cohort of credentials in whole-building LCA
The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has issued the second batch of credentials in life cycle assessment (LCA) for buildings. In this ground-breaking program, participants complete four on-line courses to earn accreditation as whole-building LCA professionals.
These professionals are well-prepared to fill a skills gap, as embodied carbon becomes more prevalent in green building programs and policies across North America.
The program was developed in a collaboration between BCIT and the Athena Institute, with funding from the Province of BC. The program is delivered on-line and includes self-paced lectures, some live sessions, and LCA modeling assignments. The content and pacing are aimed at working professionals seeking to establish deep expertise in LCA for buildings.
Course assignments use Athena free software tools, however the program is applicable for users of any whole-building LCA software who want to gain a thorough understanding of LCA standards, data, method, results interpretation, and reporting.
Because this is remote learning, the program is accessible from any geographic location (although fees are higher for non-Canadians). Registration is now open for the next offering (Fall 2024) of the first two courses in the series.
